It was a game that got thousands of views on-line but was abruptly cut short.
Thousands of people from across the Rio Grande Valley, Texas and the United States tuned in to watch Bird Bowl XXI on-line.
This year's game between the Harlingen Cardinals and Harlingen South Hawks was billed as one of the best in the history of the rivalry.
The Hawks were undefeated 8-0 this season while the Cardinals were 7-1.
Live video of the game was being shown on our website www.valleycentral.com on Friday evening.
UIL shut down the video broadcast during the 2nd half of the game just after 9 p.m. Friday.
According to UIL rules, only audio of games be shown on Friday nights.
But the game had sold out and Action 4 News had been given special permission to show video of the Bird Bowl.
UIL officials called Harlingen CISD and forced them to take down the video portion of the broadcast.
Harlingen CISD immediately complied and ceased the video broadcast.
UIL officials contend that regardless of the game selling out, no Friday night game can feature video on-line.
Action 4 News apologizes for any confusion this may have caused.
The Cardinals won the game 21-14. A full video reply will be available late Friday night.
