Vipers Season Ends In Blowout Loss To Warriors

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (30-20, 3-3) fell 147-128 to the Santa Cruz Warriors (29-21, 3-2) in Game Three of the NBA Development League Semi-Finals tonight at State Farm Arena. The Warriors move on to face the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA D-League Finals.

Houston Rockets assignee Isaiah Canaan led the Vipers with 35 points. Darius Morris added 26 points, followed by Rockets assignee Robert Covington with 23 points.

Lance Goulbourne led the Warriors with a double-double 29 points and 14 rebounds. Seth Curry added 28 points. Mychel Thompson registered 25 points, followed by Cameron Jones with 24 points.

The score tied five times during the first quarter before Goulbourne made a layup that sent Santa Cruz on a 16-3 run. At the end of the first quarter, the Warriors were up 36-23.

The Warriors remained in control during the second quarter. Kotzur made a layup to give Santa Cruz its largest lead of the first half, 46-27, with 10:02 on the clock. RGV fought back to close its deficit. With 0:46.4 remaining in the first half, Canaan made a three-pointer that put the Vipers within 10 points of the Warriors 71-61. Goulbourne responded with a layup to give Santa Cruz the 73-61 advantage at the half.

Santa Cruz continued to control the second half. With 10:30 on the clock in the fourth quarter, Covington sank a three-pointer that put the Vipers within 9 points, 110-101. Jones responded with a jump shot and the Warriors continued to build their lead. Santa Cruz won 147-128.
