Brownsville Pace Football Coach Moves Crosstown To Take Over Hanna

As Action 4 Sports first told you Thursday evening, there was a plan in place to fill the vacant Brownsville Hanna head football coaching position from within BISD, and on Friday, the deed was done, with longtime Brownsville Pace coach Rene Medrano leaving the Vikings to take over the Golden Eagles.

The Hanna position remained open after Tuesday evening's BISD board meeting, where the recommendation of Hanna DC Bill Deen was rejected by the board 4-3.

Speaking to Action 4 Sports Friday afternoon, Medrano said, "We've done a lot and accomplished a lot at Pace, now it's time to move on towards new challenges."

Medrano led Pace to the best Brownsville showing in the playoffs in over a decade this past season, beating PSJA North in Pharr for the progam's first postseason win in 28 years.

The Hanna position came open in December when second-year coach Tom Campos was reassigned.
