According to multiple sources within the Economedes athletic department, The Edinburg CISD school board voted Tuesday night to reassign Jaguars head football coach Oscar Salinas after 11 years at the helm of the Economedes football program. The same sources tell Action 4 Sports that this reassignment was not a surprise, as Salinas' office had been cleaned out for weeks. If Salinas had been hired at Rio Grande City, where he was a finalist, the ECISD school board would not have had to remove Salinas from his position, but when Carlos Longoria was hired to coach the Rattlers, the move was made at Economedes.
Salinas went 43-67 over 11 seasons with the Jaguars, and was the only head coach in the program's history. Under Salinas, Economedes had one playoff appearance, in 2004, with then-star running back Ryan Richardson.
Different sources within the school district tell Action 4 Sports that the athletic department wishes to stay within the Edinburg "Family" to fill the Economedes HC/AC position, and that Edinburg North offensive coordinator Adan Rendon has been tabbed as the top contender for the job.
