Edinburg Hires King Coordinator As New Bobcats Coach

It was almost a decision that took two days to make. But just before Tuesday turned into Wednesday, the Edinburg CISD school board made the call to hire Jake Escobar as the new head football coach/athletic coordinator for the EHS Bobcats.

Escobar, currently the offensive coordinator for the King HS Mustangs in Corpus Christi, made previous coaching stops at La Marque, Odessa Permian and La Marque, all Texas HS football powers. It was that resume, in part, that landed him the job with the Bobcats according to ECISD athletic director Joe Filoteo.

In Escobar's first and only season at Corpus Christi King, the Mustangs went 2-7, the newly-installed spread offense scoring 200 points.

Escobar takes over for former Edinburg Bobcats head coach/athletic coordinator Joey Caceres, reassigned by Edinburg CISD after 7 seasons and an overall record of 31-45 with playoff appearances in 2009, 2010, & 2011.
