Los Fresnos Quarterback Receives Statewide Honor

The Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week program honors one student-athlete in six of the state TMs athletic classifications every week during the high school football regular season for his accomplishments on and off the field, and this week's 5A winner is quarterback Jonmichael Rosales of Los Fresnos.

After a so-so start to his 2012 season, Rosales was due for a breakout game. Unfortunately for Brownsville Riviera, Jonmichael picked last week for his turnaround. In the opening District 32-5A road game, Rosales torched the Raiders 48-20, completing 14 of 18 passes for 378 yards and four TDs (16, 77, 46, and 6 yards), three of them to his favorite target, Brandon Colon. Rosales rallied the Falcons from an early 17-13 deficit by scoring 35 of the game TMs final 38 points, putting an exclamation point on a signature evening.

Jonmichael is serious about continuing his football career in college, with a bunch of Ivy League schools inquiring about his availability. A straight A student, he also won all-district honors in baseball last spring as a pitcher and first baseman. He also stays busy in various community projects around Los Fresnos.

Los Fresnos Coach Clint Finley dubs his QB a true leader. Jonmichael is like having an extra coach on the field, says Finley. He TMs a true student of the game. He invariably makes good decisions and has the knack of getting the team out of bad plays with sound judgment. It TMs a relief to know he TMs in charge, running the show.
