Raymondville Kicks Off 2013 Football Season At Midnight
Mon, 05 Aug 2013 20:06:03 GMT —
Monday was the 1st day many Valley HS football teams could hold practice, and the Raymondville Bearkats wasted no time in doing just that, hitting the field just after midnight.
This was the first "midnight madness" for the 3A program in Willacy County, and head coach Joe Gonzales says the suggestion for a new way to open the season came from assistant coaches looking to get the players, and the community, excited for the upcoming season.
Bearkats senior running back Jesse Valladares, who rushed for over a thousand yards in 2012, says the team ran with the "midnight madness', creating a facebook page and encouraging parents and classmates to attend.
Raymondville's football team is coming off of a 6-6 season last year, finishing 2nd in District 31-3A before falling in the second round of the playoffs to Orange Grove.
