Thursday Night's Valley HS Football Games Postponed Due To Lightning

Cats Stadium in Edinburg

A sudden set of thunderstorms sweeping across the Rio Grande Valley played havoc with the local high school football schedule, postponing both games on the Thursday night schedule to Saturday evening.

The first game to be postponed was La Joya Juarez-Lincoln at Edinburg Economedes, as lightning strikes delayed, then cancelled the game altogether.

The big District 31-5A matchup between the Jaguars and the Huskies was postponed until 7pm Saturday, with sole possession of the 4th and final playoff berth with 3 weeks to play going to the winner.

The postponement of McAllen Rowe at PSJA Memorial was a little more dramatic, as discussions taking place during the delay were interrupted by a lightning strike that hit a nearby transformer, plunging PSJA Stadium and nearby Pharr and San Juan neighborhoods into darkness.

The District 30-5A matchup between the Warriors and Wolverines, a must-win as the loser is eliminated from playoff contention, will be played at 6pm on Saturday at the same venue.

To recap:

La Joya Juarez-Lincoln at Edinburg Economedes-7pm Saturday, Cats Stadium, Edinburg

McAllen Rowe at PSJA Memorial-6pm Saturday, PSJA Stadium, Pharr

Right now, both of these games are scheduled to be live streamed with audio AND video on Saturday evening.
