Valley Biz Blog: Saltgrass Steak House Eyes McAllen Location

It's been on the Rio Grande Valley's wish list for years and now, it looks like we could be getting our first Saltgrass Steak House.

Saltgrass has applied to move into an old restaurant off of Expressway 83 in McAllen.

Action 4 News obtained a copy of the building permit application.

The Houston-based steakhouse is looking to move into the recently closed down Mimi's Cafe at the Palm Crossing Shopping Center off Ware Road and Expressway 83.

According to the permit appllication, the company estimates it will cost $400,000 to remodel Mimi's and transform it into a Saltgrass Steak House.

The permit has not yet been approved but is under review.

Saltgrass has restaurants across Texas as well as Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Nevada.

The company issued the following statement:

We have applied for a building permit and expect it very soon. We will commence construction immediately. Anticipated completion on opening will be late April or early May. We are excited to bring our Saltgrass brand to McAllen and the South Texas region.
