Opinion: House Republicans should hold Democrats accountable for their "abolish ICE" bill

(Sinclair Broadcast Group)

We are a country of laws and borders. Many Democrats across the country have embraced a new and radical ideal -- "abolish ICE" -- that laughs in the face of these founding principles.

Some Democrats are calling to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. The "abolish ICE" slogan can be heard on the campaign trail and in the halls of congress. Democrats in Congress have even gone as far as to propose legislation that would terminate ICE within the year.

However, they know this is a dangerous and nonsensical idea. Even the sponsors of the bill are now claiming that they'd vote against it.

Democrats are engaging in this political theater because they want you to believe that treating those that cross our borders humanely and ensuring national security at mutually exclusive.

Let's be clear, that is false and volatile rhetoric that puts our country at risk. ICE secures our borders , hunts down human traffickers, and fights terrorism—all necessary functions to keep us and our families safe.

Here's the Bottom Line: Democrats are attempting to trick the American people into embracing un-American principles that turn us into a country with loose borders like Germany or France simply because it elicits an emotional reaction that may turn people out to the polls. This slogan is disingenuous and dangerous. Congressional Republicans should force Democrats to defend their position on this issue by forcing a vote on the "Abolish ICE" bill before November.
