1 dead, 1 hospitalized after single-vehicle crash north of Mission

One person is dead and another has been hospitalized after a crash north of Mission, according to Maria Montalvo, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At about 11:55 p.m. Thursday, troopers say a tan Mercury Grand Marquis-- occupied by a male driver and a male passenger-- was traveling on Farm-to-Market Road 2221 and Texas Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation reveals the driver overrcorrected and skidded to the left, striking a concrete irrigation pipe and wooden utility post.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to DPS. The passenger was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Identification will be released pending notification of next of kin.

Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
