Alamo police arrest second suspect in stolen AR-15 investigation

Ricardo Vera, 46, of Hidalgo appears in court on a theft charge on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018. Vera is accused of buying an AR-15 that was stolen from the Alamo Police Department in 2014, then selling the stolen weapon to someone in Mexico.

UPDATE: Forty-six-year-old Ricardo Vera was charged with theft on Thursday.

Bond was set at $15,000.

Vera is accused of buying a stolen AR-15 from former Alamo police officer Jesus Ramirez, 47.

Police say Vera then sold the stolen AR-15 to someone in Mexico.

Police say more arrests are expected to be made in the investigation.

Original Story: Alamo police have arrested a second suspect in an investigation into a stolen AR-15.

Police say they arrested 46-year-old Ricardo Vera at his home in Hidalgo on Wednesday.

Vera will be arraigned on a theft charge Thursday afternoon.

Former Alamo police officer Jesus Ramirez, 47, was arrested last month after being accused of stealing an AR-15 from the Alamo Police Department in 2014 while he was still an officer.

The Texas Rangers and Alamo Police Department are still working to recover the weapon.
