Appeals court upholds Joe Lopez conviction, sentencing

A Texas appeals court has upheld the conviction and a 20-year prison sentence of former Grupo Mazz frontman Joe Lopez.

The 58-year-old singer was convicted in October 2006 for sexually assaulting and molesting a 13-year-old girl.

The Tejano star, whose real name is Jose Manuel Lopez, asked the Texas 13th Court of Appeals for a new trial.

Lopez argued that the evidence was factually insufficient to support a guilty verdict and publicity during his trial should have resulted in a mistrial.

The 13th Court of Appeals struck down Lopez TMs arguments upholding his conviction on three charges and their concurrent sentences.
