Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 30-year-old man whose gun discharged and shot a shopper at a HEB in Pharr Wednesday night.

Sandra Gonzalez, 22, of Pharr was shot by a gun that discharged when it hit the ground at the HEB located at 1300 South Cage Blvd., as CBS 4 News previously reported.

Gonzalez was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released, according to a news release from the Pharr Police Department.

Pharr police said Saturday the gun—a small caliber pistol—belonged to 30-year-old Daniel Meza of Pharr, but was being carried in a small purse that belonged to 30-year-old Ismeray Rivera of Pharr at the time of the negligent discharge.

According to the news release:

Both Mr. Meza and Ms. Rivera were shopping within the store when the purse fell to the ground and caused a negligent discharge of the small caliber pistol. As a result of the negligent discharge, Ms. Gonzalez was struck as she shopped nearby.

Pharr police say both parties were unknown to each other.

Rivera has been charged with endangering a child and failure to report a felony. Rivera was booked into the Hidalgo County jail on a $35,000 bond on Friday and couldn’t be reached for comment.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Meza for unlawful carrying a weapon and endangering a child.
