Authorities release new information after body was found near San Benito

Agencies have released new information after a body was found near San Benito on Friday morning.

During a press conference, the victim was identified as Henry Jorge Gonzalez, 35.

The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office also said they’ve arrested Janeys Martinez Sol, 46, with capital murder.

Authorities stated that on Thursday, Mission police contacted the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office about an individual that had been brought to Cameron County and killed.

Police later applied for a search warrant the same day and executed the search warrant the following day.

According to the Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio, a grave was found in a farm outside of San Benito on Farm Road 2250.

Authorities said they used Border Patrol sniffer dogs to find the body, which was later identified as Gonzalez by tattoos and the same clothing he was last seen wearing. The Gonzalez’ body was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center for an autopsy. Police said that Gonzalez’ was dead for at least 8-10 days before his body was discovered. It’s currently unclear how Gonzalez died.

The report also stated that Sol was arrested on Saturday in the 3100 block of W. Mile 10 in Weslaco. He is currently behind bars in Hidalgo County awaiting extradition to Cameron County.

Another person, Jonathon Gutierrez Canalez, 29, was also taken into custody for failure to report a felony.

Authorities said other arrests are pending.

No motive has been established, according to authorities.
