Autopsy: Cameron County jail inmate died of heart attack

The Cameron County jail.

The Cameron County Sheriff's Office released autopsy results Tuesday for an inmate who died in October. The report showed Jose Pecina died of a heart attack. The San Benito Police Department arrested Pecina in March 2014 and charged him with family violence and interfering with an emergency call. He had a heart attack while in jail. The autopsy revealed that Pecina died of a heart attack, said Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio. The Sheriff TMs Office news conference about Pecina TMs death happened days after jailers found another inmate dead.

Detention officers found 29-year Old Fernando Longoria dead last week. A preliminary autopsy didn't show any signs of trauma and the cause of death remains undetermined. The sheriff says inmate deaths remain rare, and that he wanted to express his condolences to the families.
