Body pulled from lake in Alton was missing man

UPDATE: Authorities have released new information regarding a body that was found in Alton on Sunday afternoon.

Alton Police Chief Jonathan Flores said that on Thursday, a missing person's report/welfare concern was filed with Mission police for Elias Barajas, 18.

Flores said that on Saturday they learned that Barajas was last seen in Alton around the area of Mile 5 1/2 Road and Mayberry.

Barajas' body was located Sunday afternoon in a lake in the same area.

We're told an investigation and autopsy are being conducted.

"We're treating this investigation in a serious matter. We are treating the investigation as a homicide, although we still do not know if it is a homicide. It's still in the preliminary stages at this time," said Flores.

According to Mission Fire, their sonar equipment showed the lake was approximately 28 feet deep.


The Alton Police Department and the Alton Fire Department, along with the Mission Police Department and Mission Fire Department Dive Team, pulled a male body from a lake in Alton on Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said the body was found at a lake on a ranch at Mile 5 1/2 Road and Mayberry in Alton.

Police said the body was pulled from the lake around 12:30 p.m. this afternoon.
