Border officers arrested a Mexican man at the Gateway International Bridge Monday after finding packages of cocaine hidden within his vehicle’s seats, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the federal criminal complaint against him.
Border Patrol officers say the seizure occurred after 32-year-old Sergio Ivan Rios-Lucio of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, applied for entry in to the United States in a 2009 Ford Fusion.
After a K9 alerted to the vehicle, CBP officers conducted a search and found ten packages of a white powdery substance wrapped in black electrical tape inside the seats of the vehicle, the criminal complaint states.
Four packages were found inside the front passenger side seat, two packages were found inside the front driver side seat and four packages were found inside the backseat rest area, according to the criminal complaint.
CBP officers seized the drugs and vehicle and arrested Rios-Lucio, who was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
