Border Patrol agents arrest 3 accused of possessing 119 pounds of marijuana

Border Patrol agents last week arrested three men accused of possessing 119 pounds of marijuana, according to a criminal complaint.

Forty-four-year-old Juan Luna of Edinburg, 19-year-old Jose Venegas of Rio Bravo, Mexico, and 18-year-old Fabian Rico of Rio Bravo, Mexico, were charged with possession of marijuana >50 LBS <= 2,000 LBS, a second-degree felony.

Border Patrol agents say they encountered the men while conducting line watch operations near Donna on Nov. 30.

During an interview with agents from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, the men admitted to being in possession of three marijuana bundles, weighing approximately 119 pounds, according to the criminal complaint.

A justice of the peace set their bonds at $100,000 each.

They remain in the Hidalgo County jail and couldn't be reached for comment.
