The Brownsville Police Department is making sure its bomb squad is fully staffed and prepared for any situation. They now have two newly certified bomb technicians.
After six weeks of training at the FBI Hazardous Devices School, there are now extra hands on deck for any call they may get.
Officials say it benefits the community because they have to cover a lot of ground in the Rio Grande Valley.
"Brownsville PD's Squad Unit is one of two bomb units, or bomb squads, that covers Cameron County, Willacy County, and halfway up to Corpus Christi," said Melissa Gonzalez, Brownville Police Department Public Information Officer.
Those two new technicians were assistants for the squad for five years beforehand.
The police department has had the bomb squad since 2005.
