Brownsville plans to spend $200,000 on security cameras to deter illegal dumping
Brownsville plans to spend $200,000 on new security cameras, which will help the city deter illegal dumping.
The City Commission approved funding for the cameras on Nov. 7. Brownsville's plastic bag fee will cover the cost.
"We're hoping that people will understand that there is a big penalty for illegal dumping in our city," said city Public Health Director Arturo Rodriguez.
The new high-definition cameras will monitor areas where people illegally dump trash. Anyone caught on camera may be prosecuted.
People convicted of illegal dumping trash may be fined up to $2,000.
