The Brownsville Police Department has reinstated police officer Valerie Rivas after she was acquitted of smuggling charges last week.

In February, Rivas was accused of conspiring to smuggle her boyfriend into the U.S., according to the criminal complaint against her.

Interim Chief James Paschall tells CBS 4 that Rivas has been reinstated as a Brownsville police officer, adding that he won't comment on personnel matters.
