Brownsville shooting under investigation
Brownsville police continue to search for a suspect or suspects after an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon prompted a lock-down at Rivera Early College High School.
At about 3:30 p.m., Brownsville police arrived at the 2100 block of Autumn Sage Drive and observed a stolen vehicle and a suspect or suspects.
Brownsville Detective Melissa Gonzalez says when officers gave the suspect or suspects lawful commands, they didn’t comply.
"The officers discharged their firearms and it's still under investigation," Gonzalez said. "We don't know if anybody was injured and we are still searching for the suspect or suspects."
Rivera Early College High School was placed on lock-down as a safety measure. No students or staff were injured.
Brownsville ISD Public Information Officer Ernie Garrido sent the following statement to CBS 4 News:
“BISD takes safety and security of our students & campuses with utmost importance. As such, the BISD Police Dept. followed the necessary protocol to ensure that Rivera Early College High School was safe. Parents were notified of the situation via School Messenger. At no point were students on the campus in any danger. Any reported incident occurred in the neighborhood and not inside the campus. The City of Brownsville Police Department is handling the investigation.”
