Brownsville resident accused of shooting in direction of undocumented immigrants
UPDATE: CBS 4 has learned that the charge of unlawfully discharge of firearm within municipalities was dropped as Fernandez was transferred from Brownsville police into federal custody.
Fernandez is currently charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A Brownsville man is behind bars on charges of unlawfully discharge of firearm within municipalities.
That’s after Brownsville police received a report from Border Patrol around 11:30 a.m. regarding criminal activity on the 8300 block of Southmost Boulevard.
Detective Melissa Gonzalez with the Brownsville Police Department said Border Patrol was patrolling the area when they heard shots fired.
Gonzalez said police later confirmed that Enrique Fernandez, 56, was shooting in the direction of undocumented immigrants with a pistol.
Fernandez will be arraigned on Friday morning.
Gonzalez said it’s unknown if Border Patrol caught the undocumented immigrants or the reason why the immigrants were walking along the road.
No injuries were reported.
