Candlelight vigil held to remember lives lost to child abuse
Getting the community to speak out on child abuse is no easy task and the Cameron County Community Children's Advocacy Center wants to bring awareness about abuse.
On Tuesday, the CCCAC held its annual candlelight vigil as a remembrance for lives that have been lost to child abuse.
"Unfortunately, child abuse in our society is kind of an issue that lives in the shadows," said outreach coordinator Gabriel Garcia. "It's usually kind of whispered about."
Garcia says the child abuse cases are mostly hidden.
According to Garcia, the amount child abuse cases continues to increase and there are still many more cases that go unreported.
Monica's and Maggie’s house, along with HCISD-teen parenting program, will hold its annual 5k to Prevent Child Abuse at Key's Academy at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 7.
