Cardenas resigns as Edcouch chief of police

    Edcouch Police Chief Eloy Cardenas turned in his letter of resignation.

    His last day on the job as the Edcouch chief of police is February 27.

    Cardenas told CBS 4 News he applied for the open police chief position in Elsa last month.

    It will be determined if Cardenas will receive the job next Tuesday at the city of Elsa commission meeting.

    According to Cardenas, he believes he meets the standards and requirements for the top law enforcement job in Elsa.

    "I love providing services for the public,” Cardenas said.

    Cardenas has 26 years experience as a chief of police, he said.

    He started his career in law enforcement in 1986 at the Weslaco Police Department.
