Cheap oil prices leading to relief at the pump in the Valley
Cheap crude oil prices are helping people save at the pumps.
CBS 4 spoke to a few that say it really helps keep the cost of commuting low.
"I was having to put in $30 of gas a week, right now I'm probably doing $20, $15," said Brownsville resident Brianna Bautista.
Drivers across 32 states are paying less to fill up, and that includes those here in the Valley.
In Brownsville, gas prices are as low as $1.94 so that has some residents from across the border coming to fuel up as well.
"The quality and the amount is so much better here than it is in Matamoros. For that reason, I come and fill up my car with gas on the American side," says Gustavo Ponce.
Cheap crude oil prices have the cost of gas at 30 cents lower than it was last month alone. In Texas, 35 cents less.
"I like that the price has been going down little by little, cent by cent," said Avisail Cervantes, a Brownsville resident.
Saving at the pump has drivers taking advantage while it lasts and some say, it helps in more ways than one.
"It's great that gas prices are low right now, especially having to commute from here to Edinburg twice a week because of school," Bautista said.
"I think that it's great because it helps the economy right, our pockets and it helps our money last so that price is really good," Cervantes said.
Those lower gas prices might not last too long and it all depends on whether the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) - a group of 14 oil producing countries - decided if they'll reduce oil production, which will cause gas prices to be increased again.
