Deputy U.S. marshal fires weapon while attempting to arrest fugitive in Mission

A deputy U.S. marshal fired a weapon Tuesday while attempting to arrest a fugitive in Mission.

At about noon Tuesday, the deputy U.S. marshal attempted to arrest a fugitive on a federal warrant, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Juan Lara, a spokesman for the federal agency.

The shooting took place on the 2500 block of West Expressway 83 in Mission near a busy shopping center.

"Right now it's still an ongoing investigation and we're trying to get all the details," Lara said, adding that the Mission Police Department will investigate the shooting.

The deputy U.S. marshal fired a handgun at a vehicle during the incident, Lara said. The fugitive escaped.
