UPDATE: Authorities identify driver killed in two vehicle crash in Hidalgo County

UPDATE: The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the driver of a Nissan Rogue that was killed in a morning crash in Mercedes on Wednesday morning.

Authorities identified the driver as Crystal Anthony Arriaga, 30, of Raymondville.


One driver is dead and another is in the hospital following a morning crash in Hidalgo County.

The crash happened on FM 1425, north of Mile 12 North Road, just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in Mercedes.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a preliminary investigation revealed that a red Nissan Rogue traveling southbound on FM 1425 veered off the roadway then back onto the northbound lane. That’s when, authorities said, the Nissan crashed head-on with a GMC Sierra traveling northbound.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC Sierra was taken to Valley Baptist Hospital with injuries.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.
