Edcouch woman killed in crash, teen arrested for manslaughter

An Edcouch woman is dead and a teen from La Blanca is behind bars following a one-vehicle crash on Saturday night.

The crash happened on FM 493, north of Bennett Circle in Hidalgo County.

DPS Troopers said a preliminary investigation revealed a 1997 GMC Pickup, occupied by a male driver and a female passenger, were traveling northbound on FM 493.

According to the report, the driver, Leobardo Leal, 18, of La Blanca, lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons, veered off the road and crashed into an open field.

We’re told the passenger of the vehicle, Ines Morones, 50, of Edcouch, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Leal has been arrested on manslaughter charges. His bond has been set at $750,000.

The crash remains under investigation.
