Edinburg man charged in connection with crash that killed 11-year-old boy

    An Edinburg man has been charged in connection with a head-on crash that killed an 11-year-old boy earlier this week.

    Jose Alonzo Quintanilla, 45, of Edinburg was arrested Friday and transported to Hidalgo County jail, according to Lt. Johnny Hernandez, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

    Authorities say on Wednesday, Quintanilla drove into oncoming traffic, striking a silver vehicle on Ingle Road, just west of U.S. Highway 281.

    Javen Unique Quintanilla, 11, died as a result of the crash, according to DPS. Two other people in the silver vehicle were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

    Quintanilla has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
