Families waiting to be reunited
Tuesday marks the end of the 14-day deadline to reunify children under the age of five with their parents.
However, that is something we have yet to see here in the Rio Grande Valley.
Tuesday morning, CBS 4 News was outside the Southwest Key facility in Combes where parents and children under the age of five were supposed to be reunited.
At about 2:40 p.m., the gates opened and four cars drove out.
It was unclear as to who was inside, but CBS 4 cameras caught people and car seats.
We were told children would be taken to meet their parents at the Port Isabel Detention center, but no families were seen coming out as of 6 p.m.
This is the first of the reunification deadlines for the federal government, which had asked for an extension to reunite these families.
The next deadline for children over the age of five is scheduled for July 26.
