Former front man of Brownsville-based Tejano band Grupo Mazz Jose “Joe” Manuel Lopez has been released from prison.

Lopez was released from the Thomas Goree Unit in Huntsville at approximately 9:30 a.m., according to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Public Information Officer Robert Hurst.

Lopez was granted parole in January after completing a nine-month-long sex offender treatment program, as CBS 4 News previously reported.

In October 2006, Lopez was convicted on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count indecency with a child. The victim was 13 years old.
