Former Hidalgo County sheriff released from federal prison
Former Hidalgo County Sheriff Guadalupe “Lupe” Treviño has been released from federal prison.
Treviño was serving a five-year sentence in Pensacola, Florida, after pleading guilty to a federal money laundering charge in April 2014.
The former sheriff is accused of accepting campaign cash from Weslaco drug trafficker Tomas “El Gallo” Gonzalez during Treviño’s 2012 re-election campaign.
CBS 4 News has confirmed Treviño is currently under the custody of the Residential Reentry Management Houston field office in San Antonio.
It’s unclear when, exactly, Treviño was released from prison.
