Former Raymondville prison now ICE detention center
The Raymondville detention center destroyed by prisoners in a 2015 riot will now be used to house adult detainees for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Utah-based Management & Training Corporation on Wednesday signed a contract with ICE to operate El Valle Detention Facility in Raymondville.
The new facility will only be used to house adult detainees, MTC said in a news release.
The facility is expected to bring approximately 150 full-time jobs to the county.
“MTC is a strong partner,” Willacy County Judge Aurelio Guerra stated in the news release. “They are committed to the well-being of the people in their care. As you know, the last few years have been financially challenging for the county, so we look forward to this new facility and the economic benefits it will bring to our area.”
