Four killed in Edinburg auto wreck

Four people died Thursday afternoon during a crash in Edinburg involving a Ford Mustang and an 18-wheeler.

Edinburg police responded to Orange Street on the southbound lanes of the frontage road at about 2:45 p.m.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was preparing to make a right turn on Orange Street when the driver of the Mustang GT slammed into the rear of the truck, according to Lt. Oscar Trevino, the spokesman for the Edinburg Police Department.

The driver of the car failed to control the speed of the vehicle, according to police.

The Mustang appeared to be racing another vehicle before the crash happened, Trevino said.

The light in color vehicle did not stay at the scene of the crash, police said.

The man driving the tractor-trailer was transported in an ambulance to a local hospital for observation.

The four males killed have not been identified as of Thursday afternoon.

People with information on the light in color vehicle may call the Edinburg Police Department at (956) 383-3477.
