Fourth arrest made in connection with 2017 Edinburg voter fraud investigation

Crystal Lee Ponce, the fourth suspect in an ongoing voter fraud investigation, was charged Thursday for her alleged role in the case.

A fourth arrest has been made in connection with a 2017 voter fraud investigation in Edinburg.

Crystal Lee Ponce, 28, of Pharr, was arrested by Texas Rangers on Thursday on charges of illegal voting.

Jose Antonio Vela II, 27, of Edinburg, Veronica Vela Saenz, 41 and Maria Aleman, 35, of Edinburg have already been arrested, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The arrests stems from an investigation by Texas Rangers, the Attorney General’s Office and the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office.

“Voter fraud is not acceptable in our elections,” District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez Jr said in a statement. “It is crucial to protect the integrity of our elections, and we will continue to vigorously pursue all avenues of investigation.”
