The Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville is asking for the public's help in naming a baby giraffe.

You can vote from the following seven options on the Gladys Porter Zoo's website:

  • Jabari (meaning courageous)
  • Hasani (Swahili, means handsome)
  • Zane (Swahili, means well-born, noble)
  • Khari (meaning like a king)
  • Al G.
  • Casey
  • and J.C (in memory of Juan Carlos Gonzalez, Gladys Porter Zoo, Associate Curator)

The baby giraffe made his debut at the zoo on Nov. 18, nearly six months after he was born.

Zookeepers raised the giraffe calf after his mother neglected to feed him, which is not unusual for first-time mothers, according to a news release from the Gladys Porter Zoo.

Voting will end Dec. 6 at 5 p.m.

The giraffe calf is currently on exhibit with the rest of his tower at the Gladys Porter Zoo, which will remain open on Thanksgiving Day.
