Gorena Elementary School students are taking the classroom outdoors thanks to a grant from Lowe’s.
The hardware store's 'Toolbox for Education' program provided the Edinburg C.I.S.D. school a $5,000 grant they used to build a pavilion.
Multiple teachers at the school applied for the grant after seeing a need for the new space and it allows their students to learn in a different setting.
"These kids nowadays need that extra physical activity and that goes along with learning. Having both physical activity and learning together makes for a strong individual,” said Gorena Elementary Kindergarten Teacher, Norberto Ramos.
Since 2005, Lowe’s has provided more than $54 million in grants to more than 11,000 schools.
