Harlingen C.I.S.D. elementary principal arrested for DWI
A Harlingen elementary principal is out on bond after being arrested for driving while intoxicated last week.
Traci Gonzalez, 52, who is the principal at Dr. Rodriguez Elementary within the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, was arrested late Thursday night.
According to the arrest report, the officer stated that Gonzalez almost hit his patrol unit with her Ford Mustang in the 100 block of W. Tyler Ave.
As the officer spoke with Gonzalez, he detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.
The report stated that following an investigation for driving while intoxicated, Gonzalez was arrested and taken to the city jail.
Gonzalez posted a $2,500 bond.
The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District also released a statement saying,
The district is aware of the situation but, unfortunately, we are not able to comment on the specific issues pertaining to the Principal in question due to legal and personnel privacy concerns. The Principal has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the situation. The matter is also being investigated by the Harlingen Police Department. Although this is a non-school related incident, in HCISD, we hold all employees to the highest standards of professionalism and will take appropriate administrative action as needed.
