Original story: State troopers are investigating a two-vehicle crash in Hidalgo County that left one teen dead and four others hospitalized on Thursday evening, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
At about 7:30 p.m., a Ford Mustang traveling westbound on Farm-to-Market Road 1925 lost control and veered onto the oncoming lane. Authorities say that's when a white Ford pickup truck traveling eastbound on Farm-to-Market Road 1925 struck the Ford Mustang from behind.
Authorities say the 16-year-old driver of the Ford Mustang was pronounced dead at the scene. The two passengers of the Ford Mustang, both teenagers, were transported to a local hospital. One of the passengers was airlifted from the scene, and remains in critical condition.
The driver of the white Ford pickup truck was not injured. The two passengers of the pickup truck were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
Authorities say that the 16-year-old driver of the Ford Mustang had a learner's permit, but should not have been driving without a person 21 years or older with a driver's license inside the vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.
