Manhunt subject arraigned on multiple charges

Jose Garcia stands before a judge at the San Juan Municipal Court on Saturday.

The subject of Friday’s manhunt in San Juan has been arraigned on multiple charges.

Jose “Killer Joe” Garcia was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, evading arrest and detention, resisting arrest and evading arrest with a vehicle Saturday at the San Juan Municipal Court.

A manhunt was initiated Friday afternoon after authorities say Garcia “intentionally” struck a deputy constable with a gray GMC during a traffic stop, then fled the scene.

Garcia was located hours later in a brush area with the assistance of U.S. Marshals, according to San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez.

Bond was set at $350,000.

Garcia was transported to the Hidalgo County jail following his arraignment.
