A McAllen nurse and her husband accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from an elderly couple were formally charged Monday.
Prosecutors say Elizabeth and Alejandro Leal stole more than $400,000 from an elderly couple in 2017.
According to the criminal complaint against her, Elizabeth Leal, a home health nurse, somehow got power of attorney after she befriended the couple and started stealing large amounts of money.
Leal and her husband were arraigned Monday on charges of theft and exploitation of child/elderly/disabled— both first-degree felonies.
They are expected back in court in May for pre-trial hearings.
