Mission CISD elementary school briefly placed on lockdown

    A Mission Consolidated Independent School District elementary school was forced to go into a lockdown just before 7:30 Friday morning.

    Mission CISD officials were told to secure Leal Elementary School because of a police pursuit in the area. Law enforcement kept everyone inside, but no arrests were made anywhere on campus grounds.

    Border Patrol says Mission police asked for their help for a vehicle bailout near the elementary school, causing the school to temporarily lockdown as a safety precaution. . Agents, as well as Mission officers, searched the area and arrested eight undocumented immigrants.

    No students or staff were injured during the event.

    The district issued a statement to clear up social media rumors about a gun on campus, which wasn't the case:

    At approximately, 7:20 a.m. Mission CISD officials were instructed to secure Leal Elementary School due to a pursuit in the area of the campus. Local law enforcement officials immediately provided additional security at the campus allowing for activities to continue inside the school while keeping everyone secure inside, and not allowing any entry to the school.
    As of 8:55 a.m., the campus is still under a secure status at the advisement of law enforcement. As of this time, no suspects have entered the grounds of Leal Elementary School and there have been no arrests made anywhere on campus grounds.
    Rumors of a gun incident at a Mission CISD school are false. We also understand there may be video of what appears to be an apprehension that is being assumed to be a student. This is false.
