This is a tough time for the Cuevas family.

Leslie Cuevas' son, 14-year-old Jaden, was taken from her in a deadly two-vehicle crash near the port of Harlingen on Monday.

According to state troopers, a tractor-trailer was attempting to turn left on Cemetery Road off Farm-to-Market Road 106 when it failed to yield the right of way and collided with a truck.

Jaden, a passenger of the truck, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Cuevas said Wednesday it still doesn't feel real that Jaden's not coming home.

"We just don't know why it happened. I wish I knew," Cuevas said. "Sometimes I don't believe it. Then it hits me, I think about him and I see a picture. Then I realize that there's no more Jaden."

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of freight-liner was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
