Gas leak fixed, Tom Gill Road expected to reopen

9:55 a.m. Update: Workers fixed the gas leak. The city of Peñitas expects Tom Gill Road to reopen by 10 a.m., according to a news release.

8:52 a.m. Update: Tom Gill Road is closed between Marble Street and Volcano Street, according to a news release from the city of Peñitas.

"Emergency personnel are on site and city officials encourage drivers to avoid the area," according to the news release.

Marble and Volcano streets are located on Tom Gill Road between U.S. 83 and 3 Mile Line.

City Manager Omar Romero said a major natural gas leak forced police to close Tom Gill Road from Uranium Street to 3 Mile Line.

The city asks residents to avoid the area until further notice.
