No, the Rio Grande Valley is not running out of gasoline
Gasoline prices may increase slightly as a result of Hurricane Harvey, but Texas — including the Rio Grande Valley — isn't in danger of experiencing a shortage, according to a spokeswoman for the Texas Railroad Commission.
Prices may increase 5 to 25 cents during the next month, but Texas will not experience a gasoline shortage as a result of the storm, said Lauren Hamner Spreen, director of public affairs for the Railroad Commission.
Rumors about price hikes and a television news report about a potential shortage sparked a run on gas stations Monday afternoon.
Hidalgo County assured residents that the Valley isn't in danger of experiencing a shortage.
