October showers put a dent in Valley's 'rain deficit'
Roughly 6 inches of rain fell on McAllen during the first half of October — about 5 inches more than normal.
While 2017 remains below average for rainfall across the Rio Grande Valley, heavy rain during the past two weeks helped reduce the deficit.
Harlingen recorded 3.5 inches of rain, about 2 inches more than normal.
Brownsville recorded 3 inches of rain, nearly 1 inch more than normal.
