At least one American citizen has been confirmed among the 193 bodies found in a series of mass graves south of the border in San Fernando, Tamaulipas.

The American Consulate in Matamoros confirmed the development on Tuesday afternoon.

Consulate officials are not releasing the victim TMs identity due to privacy issues but spokesman Brian Quigley issued a statement.

We wish to express our deepest condolences to the victim TMs family and condemn this crime in the strongest possible terms, the statement read. The U.S. Consulate General in Matamoros is in contact with the next of kin and is providing all appropriate consular assistance to the family.

Quigley reported that American officials are in contact with Mexican authorities in the case and working to bring the suspects to justice.

The consulate confirmed that at least one other American citizen remains missing after being abducted aboard a passenger bus in Tamaulipas.

Officials are waiting on DNA results to see if any of the bodies found are a match for the other missing American citizen.

The American Consulate is reiterating an April 8th warning about traveling on passenger buses in Tamaulipas as well as an April 22nd warning about travel in Mexico.
