Palmview mayor orders mandatory evacuation of residents, businesses on FM 495

Due to the past two day’s heavy rainfall, drainage canals in Palmview began backflowing and flooding neighborhoods.

Palmview Mayor Gerardo Perez has issued a mandatory evacuation of residents on businesses on Veterans Boulevard (Farm-to-Market Road 495) between Bentsen Palm Drive and Minnesota Road.

Residents can self-evacuate or call 911 for evacuation assistance. Those who self-evacuate are asked to call 956-4321-0300 to confirm they have evacuated.

Due to the past two day’s heavy rainfall, drainage canals in Palmview began backflowing and flooding neighborhoods.

Palmview Police Sgt. Arnold Sepulveda tells CBS 4 that as a result of the rainwater these canals collected from Alton and Mission, the water in the canals began to overflow on Friday, causing evacuations at about noon.

Local police and Texas DPS troopers had to use boats to evacuate people from their homes.

The areas most effected are those around 2 Mile Line Rd., off of Farm to Market 492, and the Spring Glen colonia.

Police have also set up road closures on Veterans Blvd., East Goodwin, Minnesota Rd. And Bentsen Palm Dr.

A shelter is being set-up at the Iglesia del Pueblo at Showers Road and the westbound frontage of Expressway 83.

Residents needing help evacuating their home, can call 911 or Palmview police dispatchers 956-432-0303.

Sinkholes have also been reported along Veterans Boulevard, resulting in submerged vehicles.

The evacuation order is expected to be effective until Monday.
